APIG VIC: Construction Seminar & Networking Drinks
An APIG VIC Event
19/11/2024 16:00 to 19/11/2024 20:00
Venue: CBP Lawyers, Level 23, 181 William Street, MELBOURNE, VIC, 3000, AUSTRALIA,
Details:
Victoria in conjunction with the Australian Federal Government, local governments and the construction sector are aiming to build 1.2 million new homes over the next 5 years. At the same time,, the Victorian Minister for Planning has announced a new more powerful building and plumbing watchdog (the Building & Plumbing Commission) to oversee the industries across the State; the VBA has published an independently commissioned report into seven of the VBA’s most complex and challenging consumer cases; and Victoria’s builders’ warranty insurance will be reformed to provide greater “first resort” protection for consumers.
All of these developments come against the backdrop of the Victorian Building System Review commenced in 2021, following years of crumbling consumer confidence in the building and construction industry nationally, including several high-profile issues with Opal Towers, Lacrosse Apartments, and Mascot Towers.
In light of all these changes, what are the risks and challenges facing an already strained construction sector and what does it mean for industry participants, their insurers and advisors.
Join panellists:
- Steven Baxas, State Building Surveyor;
- Jeremy Whelan, Barrister;
as they delve into how construction professionals, brokers, insurers and lawyers need to be prepared to assist with the changing landscape and looking ahead.
